Il dolore comune. Butler dopo Kant

2019

The author shows how the political reflexion of Butler is a radicalisation of the Kantian one. The theme of pain ,which Heidegger already debated on a rational and non-emotional basis, constitutes for the philosopher the point from which you start to think about the community today.

Ibridi urbani. Città mediterranee alla ricerca di nuove identità

2007

Contemporary society stresses its multicultural and multiethnic character. The comings and goings of humankind are becoming more important than ever before, affecting cities and metropolises, exposing them to global risk and causing them to search for nervous and confused responses to the global challenge. In order to understand this current transmutation, it is necessary first to adopt a cosmopolitan outlook and to perform “sopralluoghi” ( over-places). In other words, it is necessary to go beyond the methodological nationalism which is a constituent of the social sciences, and, by using on-the-spot inspections, to detect the places of contact where the present cosmopolitan processes are m…

TOWARDS A LIVING-ORIENTED APPROACH TO URBAN DESIGN BY COSMOPOLITAN RISK COMMUNITIES

2021

At a defining moment for the future of life on Earth, active citizenship and informed communities play a decisive role in sensitising stakeholders to issues and influencing their decisions via physical and digital platforms. Anthropogenic climate change generates risks, causes migrations, expands inequalities, and mobilises people: these challenges question both the relationship of coexistence between different cultures and that between humans and other living species, such as animals, insects, and plants. If inhabiting cosmopolitan cities means living in and sharing a plural habitat, it is of utmost importance that we gather our collective expertise and rethink cities as welcoming spaces f…

Literature of the Americas in the making: U.S. writers and translation in Sur, 1931-1944

2013

This essay engages history of translation by examining one of its most important contributors: Sur, a literary journal that Victoria Ocampo ran for 45 years and 340 issues. The most celebrated Latin American writers of the 1960s ‘Boom’ unanimously recognized that their key literary influences were those that they had first read in translation in Sur. Specifically, the essay focuses on the translations of North American literature in Sur’s early years: E. Hemingway, M. Twain, L. Hughes, K. A. Porter, E. A. Poe, H. Melville, e. e. cummings, W. Whitman, H. James, and most prominently, W. Faulkner, are translated by J. L. Borges, E. Pezzoni, J. Bianco, R. Baeza, BioyCasares, and M. Acosta. Whil…

L'adriatico e la ricerca dell'identità nazionale in musica

2004

The author analyses Friedrich Meinecke's concepts of 'Staatsnation' and 'Kulturnation' in relation to tendencies of nationalism and cosmopolitanism in Italian, Slavic and German music in the region of the North Adriatic under the Absburg administration from 1860 to 1918 (Trieste, Istria, Rijeka/Fiume, Dalmazia). With regard to nationalism, the biographies of Ivan von Zajc and Nikola Strmic, both supporters of Italian opera and later proponents of the national Croatian opera (Strmic only for a short period), are useful exemplars.Other composers, such as the Italian Antonio Smareglia and the Slovenian Marij Kogoj, kept faith with the cosmopolitan idea of the Austrian intellectuals (typical al…
